wagamama to create 50 new jobs in belfast

One of the trendiest, and most successful, restaurant chains in the UK is to open its first branch in Belfast in time for Christmas.
wagamama, a london based, asian influenced noodle and rice bar with a style that has won it a loyal following around the world is to create 50 jobs when it opens in November at Victoria Square in the city centre.

The franchise which already has three restaurants in the republic of ireland, will occupy a hitherto unused, 3,000 sq ft space in the shopping centre, manager Hugh Black confirmed.

'We're delighted that wagamama has chosen Victoria Square to launch its first northern ireland restaurant", he said.

"wagamama is an extremely well known and loved brand which has been incedibly successful across the UK and in Dublin, and I have no doubt the new restaurant at Victoria Square will be a great success with customers who already know the wagamama brand and those who are keen to sample the asian fusion menu".

The wagamama franchise was founded in london in 1992 taking its inspiration from the ramen bars which proliferate across japan. its philosohpy of no frills, healthy eating in the communal dining environment where long, shared tables replace more usual placings have won it many fans leading to the opening of 66 restaurants across the uk and 39 internationally employing more than 2,200 people.

"The arrival in belfast was another indication of a return of confidence to the city in the wake of the recession" said Black.
